Why Weight Train

I really enjoy lifting weights. It's funny because most women do not. Many believe that they will "bulk up". That is so not the case.

First, unless you are a body builder, you are only using smaller weights. Most start with 3 to 5 pounds. That is not enough to get that "no neck" look. Second, weight training helps you sculpt those problem areas like jiggly arms and saddlebags. Right now, my arms are tight and toned and I don't have that flabby part of my arms that used to keep moving after I finished waving to someone. Finally, weight training speeds up you metabolism and helps you lose weight faster. The biggest benefit, I think, is that I feel stronger and more powerful. I don't have problems carrying a load of laundry or heavy groceries.

I have been training since May. My thought was that I would also strengthen the muscles around my affected joints. So far, it seems to help. I weight train twice a week for 20 to 30 minutes using 10 pound free weights.

So, give it a try. You will definitely see results!

Free weights rule, absolutely. Most people don't like them because they require more control.

Go you!

I couldn't agree more! I've been weight training for 3 years and I definitely see a marked increase in my strength.

i don't necessarily enjoy it, but I don't enjoy working out anyways. But I do it because I want to be stronger. My husband does it and notices that his physically demanding job is a lot easier and he's less tired at the end fo the day.

I knew a female pro weight trainer that did a lot of lifting and she was a size zero. So it clearly doesn't bulk you up.
