T Minus One Week And Counting

My 20th high school reunion is next Saturday. This event was one of the reasons, I got serious about getting fit. (Having a chronic illness was the major reason) Since I began my journey in January:

  • I lost 20 pounds (I am 160)
  • I am a size 12 (sometimes a loose 12)
  • I can power walk 2.2 miles in 35 minutes at 4.0 MPH.
  • My arms look fierce from my upper body weight training (10 pound free weights)
  • My energy level is vastly improved.
  • I made it through a RA flare without having to resort to steroids.
  • I have sustained my remission for over one year.

But the biggest accomplishment was today. Today I was able to jog for five minutes during my treadmill workout. That is huge for me. Because of the RA, running was out of the question. I have always loved running. When I could not do that anymore, I felt like a part of me died. Today, I feel like a piece a of me was reborn.

I don't think I will be running any marathons anytime soon, and I don't think I will be able to go hard core because of the impact on the joints. But it would be nice to maintain a slow jog without serious impact. I am meeting with my Rheumatologist next month for my annual check up, so I will ask her what she thinks.

In the meantime....WOOHOO!!!!!!!
