Funny you should ask....

Seeking Solace, your post made me laugh and brought me out of hiding. Due to some really bad knees (part genetics, part being to stupid to realize that I would never ever be a major league catcher), my workouts are pretty much limited to the pool these days with some occasional weight machines mixed in. The routine has been at least and hour in the pool, five days a week doing a combination of water exercises and at least a half hour with a kick board.

I belong to probably the nicest gym in the area. (mainly because back when my knees could take tennis, I did that two days a week.) The pool is a nice size with a wet steam and whirlpool right beside it. As you are doing laps, you can observe the whirlpool. (glass enclosed, shower in there for pool)

Recently, the gym started a basketball league open to members and non-members. Many of these people just have no freaking clue (though last night's confrontation was with two members who should have known better.)

The problem is people (men AND women) coming in from the gym all sweaty and gross, and then going in the steam room and getting even more gross. Yeah, I know it's a gym, that is normal. The problem is when they jump in the pool to cool off. In gym clothes, NOT bathing suits. Signs are posted that say a) take a shower and b) swim suits only. I guess I should be happy that they at least take their sneakers off.

I noticed it last week cause guys---you don't wanna know what you look like in wet, white basketball shorts. (It pretty much destroys any positive vibes you are trying to develop with that fake ass Chinese letter tattoo.) ew

To the guy who jumped in the hot tub and then wrung his shirt out and washed it...Double ew. I will never get in there again.

And to the couple who now hates my guts. It was annoying enough watching you admire your abs in the mirror. I really don't want to know what the two of you were doing in the steam room. But when you hopped into the pool, (without showering) right off our lane and sat on the steps in your shorts, sports bra, and underwear, you so crossed the line.

I got out of the pool--froze my ass off and found the manager. Explained the situation (5 people in under a half hour doing this) but of course by the time I got to her only the gym couple was left. She came down and gave the couple a lecture (they were now back in the steam room )and then quickly left. The gentleman came out of the steam room fuming and plopped back in the pool. (GF knew she was dead to rights and sat on the end of the pool in her sportsbra.) I approached the guy and said, look, I'm not trying to make trouble but it is a health issue. Swimsuits ONLY in the pool. He of course puffed out his chest and said he was staying because he had a swimsuit on.

I marched back up to the manager who had to come down and again, kick him out of the pool. Screaming fight ensued. As he yelled---this is a swimsuit, I calmly yelled back from my lane--- nice underwear!!!! Thank you so much for putting your dirty underwear in the swimming pool-- it makes the night so much nicer for us all!!!! As he ranted about kids in diapers (children not allowed in pool btw) I just went to the other end....

The manager told him to stay out of the pool which he did, but he pretty much sat by the whirlpool bitching for the next 40 minutes. Needless to say I was grossed out and not quite in the best frame of mind. (and being pierced by all the testosterone laden evil stares coming at me from the whirlpool.)

I tried to talk to the manager afterward, but she was clearly fried from a very long day. She said it would be taken care of, but honestly, I'm not so sure.... She said that I need to tell them about these things, but frankly I'm not paid to supervise the pool and I don't feel like getting into fights every single night....

So guys, was I totally out of line here? Is this a minor pet peeve or just downright gross?

bleh! that is unsanitary and uncalled for. i don't blame you for seeking the manager and i would continue to do so, if i were you. the manager needs to be aware of that for the safety of all members and possibly stationing a person to monitor that area.
