For the past few months, I've been super-focused on the job search...and not as focused on fitness and good nutrition. And the past few weeks, especially, I've been traveling a lot for interviews. As a result, I've had a harder time working out one day a week than I thought I would, though I cut myself a lot of slack for that. The reality is, though, that I've almost surely gained weight since before Christmas and have lost some ground fitness-wise due to not working out all that much.
Now that the job search is winding down, I want to refocus on fitness and, especially, nutrition. While I worked out regularly last semester (rowing practice was one of the best ways for me to put all the work crap and job search out of my mind), I have been eating terribly for quite some time. I've been doing a lot of stress eating, and that has got to stop.
So, first step: I need to get to the gym today to get my one workout in this week. I went for a run last Saturday, and I haven't worked out since then because I was either interviewing or traveling to/from an interview Sunday-Friday this week.* Starting this coming week, I want to aim for 4 workouts/week (three rowing practices and one non-rowing workout), assuming that the cold that I've had for 2 weeks doesn't get worse.
More importantly, I'm going to make some changes in my eating habits, starting with two changes: 1) Eat 1 salad/day. For a vegetarian, I've been eating very little in the way of vegetables lastely. 2) Cut way back on desserts & sweets. I want to work for moderation so that I can get back to healthy eating habits over the long term, so I'm going to allow myself one dessert at the end of the week. But no more of this daily dose of ice cream or chocolate.
That's the plan! I'm glad to have Active Academic here to post this for myself, and even though I haven't posted or commented here yet this year, I've been enjoying reading all of your posts so far.
*As it turns out, I did have some down time during my most recent trip, but I didn't have any workout clothes with me.
