avoidance

Okay, okay, I'll admit it: I've been avoiding you. This academic has been anything but active lately and I just didn't want to fess up to it. Remember that last post (yes, that was in AUGUST) where I was eating lettuce and walking three times a week. Umm...don't think I've walked since then.

I know, I'm awful.

Well, the weather hasn't helped. We've had lots of rain in the last two weeks and I'm not devoted enough to put on my rain slicker and wander about the trails during a thunderstorm. And I've been pretty busy, sometimes not getting home from campus until 8:00, by which time I'm just ready to eat dinner, do something mindless for an hour, and go to bed. And I've been in a bit of a mental funk (nothing serious, just a few "meh" moments) so exercising hasn't been high on my list of priorities. See? I've got lots of excuses!

What I have been doing, though, is climbing stairs. Lots of them. Realizing I've been avoiding the daily walks, my punishment is taking any stairs that present themselves, and my thighs were burning this weekend. And I'm still doing my nightly stretches; the weights are kind of iffy but now that I have Jon and Steven back* (thank goodness!), I can start up again. And after a potato chip-and-ice cream binge a week ago, I have been eating much healthier. Tonight: green salad, steamed veggies, eggroll. Last night: green salad and quiche. In the fridge: more quiche, more veggies, more lettuce, cottage cheese, turkey, tuna. In the pantry: oatmeal for breakfast, whole grain pasta, seltzer waters. Now, if I'd just exercise, dammit, I'd be a relatively healthy person.

*Anyone notice I stopped exercising for the exact length of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report hiatus? Coincidence?

Althouh you have not been consciously exercising, I give you credit for taking the stairs. Don't discount that as a replacement for your walks.

Good that you have refocused yourself with the eating! Looking forward to hearing more of your progress.
