I'm back...

I finally earned the right to post on here again! I worked out today, for the first time in a week and a half. YAY for me! I went to the faculty gym on campus and did 2 miles on the treadmill, which I still find boring, and some free weights (not many sets), and did weight machines. I was there for over an hour.

I have to say that I think the weight machines are fun. I've always thought so. I don't know why. They feel like a reward for getting through the walking. I must think they're fun because using them makes me feel more like a "real" athlete for some reason. Weird.

I also learned that it costs $5 each day for a guest pass to our faculty gym. That seems expensive to me. I want to be able to go to the gym with TheBoyfriend when he's out here for about two weeks in August, though.

Hey B*! Thanks for the tags - more fun organizing for me!

Also - weight machines - it's so cool that you like them. I always feel intimidated and worried that some burly "real" athelete wants to kick me off. That's mostly because up until recently, regular folks at my Uni had to share the gym with atheletes. Now we have our own facility - which I never attend.

Anyway, yay for exercise!

Yay for exercising!!!

$5.00 per day is a lot. Can you get a pass or a discount?

Is there a big lap pool anywhere in the community? I know the Boyfriend is a swimmer and swimming supposedly exercises every single muscle group in the body. Water exercises are supposed to be lower impact (and maybe more fun?), too, I think. Anyway, it seems like such a perfect summer way to exercise.

It would be great if there was an outside pool - that's almost like just having fun. But even a local Y or something would work for an hour or so a day, depending on what they charge. It may be hard finding a quiet outdoor one during the summer with all the kids out of schoo.

Wait! How far are you from the beach? I know you go there sometimes with visitors. Swimming in the ocean = fun + exercise, right?

We have a community pool and we were supposed to bring in ID so we could bring my granddaughter, but we never did. Now summer is almost over. I have to go look into this.

Good Luck!

Pools here are complicated. You have to belong to a Pool Club and stuff like that... Weird. The faculty pool is only open 11 - 1 p.m. M - F, so that's an option, but not at a good time.

Next weekend, we will be at the beach! ALL WEEKEND! We'll definitely swim then.

My uni has wellness dollars that I used to pay a personal trainer to teach me how to use the machines during my first year in my job, so I feel now like I understand (most) of them and have the right to use them! YAY!

B*, I used to work at a gym--either see if the front desk person can't do you a "favor" in exchange for something (I used to all the time if I was asked nicely) or be very direct with the sales person or manager, or even your PT. talk about how much you value they're gym etc and how you'd like a guest pass, push and push and they should at least give you a discount if not a few free days. Maybe mention how another gym offers that to their members (bally total fitness does) so they feel the competition.

rented life - I feel like I could do this if it was a gym where I have to pay for membership, but I feel like, since it's the campus gym that's already free for me, there's probably not much I can do. :(
