Goal Tracking: Week 1

So my exercise goal was 4 days this week - I made 3 days. I attended an out of town wedding Saturday and planned to workout Sunday when we returned by I was just too exhausted. This week, 4 days for sure. I ordered a video recommended here (can't find link at the moment, but I think it was betty) to add to the mix.

My food goal was to watch portion sizes, eat each bite deliberately, and only eat when I am hungry. Mon-Fri afternoon, I was great. Really. BUT (and this is a huge but, not unlike the actual one above my legs) Friday night we went out to celebrate my paper and Saturday was an out-of-town wedding. Both were disasters in terms of eating. Friday I ate entirely too much. Lesson - do not purchase a 4-course inclusive meal because I will eat it all. Saturday, I actually didn' t eat much at the wedding, but after the wedding I was semi-drunk and ate pizza & breadsticks. Lesson - well I actually don't feel too bad about this one. This is the first wedding I've attended in about 2 (maybe 3) years and I don't mind eating and drinking too much every once in a while. Eating deliberately is actually quite difficult. I do notice when I'm eating too fast and without thought, which is good. I'll keep trying on this one. Only eating when I'm hungry was also pretty easy. It was so hot that I didn't really want to eat even when I was hungry.

This week - I leave for a conference Friday and must do better than this past weekend. New goal - make smart choices when dining out.

One thing that I've often thought about trying is to get a friend to split one yummy thing and one healthy thing with me. When you have to give half your food to someone else, you can't eat the whole thing. And also, if you get one less healthy (though not super bad for you, just tasty) thing then you won't feel deprived. I guess this requires a dining companion you can talk into this...so, maybe it's too hard all the time. But sometimes this could work. The half sandiwch/salad option is common in restaurants - I like those.
