Hello Out There

I was reading a post by a fellow blogger about wanting to lose weight in a short period of time. The blogger mentioned that this blog is more about long term goals and needs something for the short term.

This gave me pause. I thought maybe the Challenge is not working for some. Perhaps it's too much of a commitment. Maybe you need something else?

I thought about the sub-title of this blog Trying to balance academic life with a healthy lifestyle. What does that mean? In order to have a "healthy lifestyle", one must have short and long term goals. Maybe the focus of this blog should change?

So Active Academics, give me your comments and feedback. What would you like to see or change? If you don't feel comfortable posting, drop me an email at seekingsolaceblog@gmail.com.

My personal need (which I of course acknowledge is NOT necessarily the same as the needs of anyone else) is for life changes, which for me need to happen gradually. If I tried at the beginning to do all the challenges we've taken on in the past 6 months I would have gotten frustrated and quit a long time ago. This is honestly the first time I've stuck to ANY kind of healthy eating/active plan, so the pace and substance works for me.

That said, if other people need something quicker paced, perhaps there could be a "sub challenge" each week or every month there could be a active challenge AND an eating challenge...

I'm definitely curious to see what everyone else thinks!

I like the current format, too. For me, this blog is a source of accountability. It always pops up in my Google Reader and reminds me that I'm not alone in my struggles to keep some semblance of health while being in this profession. I don't always follow along with the challenges (like this month, I CANNOT get outside because it's horribly humid and my allergies won't take it), but I like the idea of a new focus each month. I definitely need the lifestyle change approach and this blog helps keep me on track.
