Between the end of the semester and the holidays, this is such a hard time of year to keep up with exercise. I took a week off from working out at Thanksgiving. I didn't intend to go for an entire week without working out; it just happened that way. This year, I have a couple of goals that are keeping me motivated:
~there's a holiday rowing challenge from Thanksgiving to Christmas. I'm aiming for the 100,000 meter challenge, which means that I have to row an average of 25,000 m/week. Based on the past couple of weeks, I've been averaging about 24K m/week thus far, so this will push me just a bit.
~we're working on sprinting in rowing practice, working our way up to 2,000 meter sprints. The better my base aerobic fitness is, the better I'll be able to do the anaerobic stuff in sprints.
~and then there's the part where I want to lose some weight/inches. I have at least one in-person interview coming up next month (hoping for more!), and so I'd really like to be a tad slimmer. The actual weight doesn't matter as much to me as the inches. I think this goal will affect my eating habits more than my workout habits, assuming I keep up with the workouts I've been doing over the past month or two.
So, maybe this will be the holiday season when I drop pounds instead of gain them?

I hear ya. I tend to slack off during this time because of grading, end of semester stuff and the usual holiday crapola. What's sad is that I should work out to help me stay sane during this time!!!
Good luck with your goals!!! I know you can do it!!!!
