Despite my most recent medical catastrophe, I am still working out.
Today, I took my dog (The Boy) for a brisk walk through the neighborhood. We did 1.4 miles in 30 minutes. It's amazing that it's mid October and the temperature today was 70 degrees. That is just not normal in my neck of the woods. It was nice to get out and enjoy the sun. Monday, I did my incline workout on the treadmill, plus two weight circuits. The incline workout is great for the butt, quads and calves.
It's funny because the warm weather had been a blessing and a curse. The warm weather has kept the Rheumatoid Arthritis flares away and has allowed me to stay in remission for a longer period. I usually have a major flare this time of year. In the past, I have resorted to steroid treatments. It helps, but it leaves one nasty side effect..weight gain. But since I reinstated my workouts, I have not used steroids in two years.
Also, the workouts are keeping my depression and anxiety in check. I am having a tough semester with the new job and the possibility of not having a teaching job again. Somehow, the workouts keep the crummy thoughts at bay for a while.
But, the flip side is that my sinuses and even worse, my migraines have hit me really hard. The RA flares are quite painful, but I would take an RA flare over a migraines anytime. Something about head pain just makes you want someone to put you out of your misery!
So, how are you doing?
