run grrrrl run

Last week, our rowing coach was stressing the importance of longer workouts both to build endurance and lose weight. Thirty minutes of cardio, he said, is great for working off lunch, but it’s not going to burn off stored fat. Given that I really need to burn off fat, I’ve set a goal for myself to work up to longer cardio workouts—45 minutes or more.

So yesterday, I headed out for a jog with the goal of running for 40 minutes. That’s about 4-6 minutes longer than my recent runs. I frankly didn’t care how fast I ran, just so long as I ran for 40 minutes. I’m happy to report that I ran for 40 minutes and did not die. I ended up running just shy of 3.5 miles (I love the gmaps pedometer!).

To celebrate the accomplishment, here’s my playlist for the run:

“Tukka Yoot’s Riddim,” Us3 (warm-up walk)
“Holla Back Girl,” Gwen Stefani
“Go-go gadget gospel,” Gnarls Barkley
“Knowing,” Big Boi (Outkast)
“Lily and Parrots,” Sun Kil Moon
“Because We Can,” Fatboy Slim
“Push it,” Garbage
“The Man Who Sold the World,” Nirvana
“Devil Inside,” INXS
“LDN,” Lily Allen
“The Way You Move,” Big Boi (Outkast)
“I’m Not Afraid,” Fleming and John

It's great that you focused on completing the run, rather than distance. Good for you!
