Saturday morning I completed my first ever 5K. I ran the somewhat hilly route in 33 minutes flat. It was a run/walk specifically for females. I would say that their were young ladies as young as 9 or 10 years old and ladies in their 60s out there. It was a very positive atmosphere and I think everyone had a great time.
It was pretty exhilarating to cross the finish line as I've never done something like that before. I could feel myself speeding up that last quarter of a mile as I was trying to come in under 33 minutes. I looked at my watch and realized that I could possibly do so and the crowd was cheering the runners on. Though I was tired, I kept my speed up. I didn't quite make it as I came it at 33 minutes, exactly. Not too shabby, if I do say so myself. My original goal was to complete the course in 30 minutes. I realized that wasn't going to happen at mile two and I just pushed myself to get it done at that point. Which I did. ;~)
What's next? A 10K? Only time will tell....
