I love soda but I hate diet soda - not a good situation to be in, when I know how many calories are packed into each little can. I've made some adjustments to my intake over the last few years, namely buying cans (to control portions), limiting my intake (one, no more than two, cans a day) and moving to C2 instead of full-out Coke (I still can't make it to diet Coke, though).
Yesterday I took another of my small steps and bought a case of diet Sunkist. I figured the diet taste might be more palatable in a different drink. I'm having my first one right now, with my turkey and havarti sandwich. I just took a second sip and really, it tastes pretty good. I think I can actually handle this.
Round of applause, everyone: I'm drinking a diet soda!!

Have you tried Diet Coke with Lime? It doesn't have that nasty after-taste.
Good for you!
Another recommendation: diet root beer. In my experience, it is the one type of diet soda that tastes most like the real thing (especially A&W or Barq's).
I love diet. But i can see why you might not like it. have you tried CokeZero? i also find that diet CPlus and diet root beer (mugs) taste very non-diet like.
Yay! That is a hard move to make. I hate artificial sweetners, so I feel your pain. Luckily, I also like club sode with lime or any other flavored sparkling water. Sugar free and I feel like I'm drinking soda! Do they have those around where you are? This really helped me kick my Coke habit (that sounds bad !) because it turns out I just like the bubbles.
Thanks for the tips! I don't like root beer - too rooty (thanks anyway). Coke Zero is okay in a pinch; I have a few in my fridge right now - if I've had my daily quote of C2, I have to drink one of those. I'll have to try the DC w/ Lime; someone told me DC w/ Cherry wasn't too bad, either. Flavored sparkling water is tasty, but I'll admit, I also need the caffeine. Still, having alternatives in the fridge is always a good idea.
So glad to know there are others who don't like diet sodas. When I go out with my friends, I'm the only female NOT ordering the diet stuff!
For the love of all that is holy I cannot stand diet soda. BLECH. I too, feel like an outsider with the fully-sucrosed version at dinner.
If you're out somewhere with fountain drinks, you can mix half diet and half regular. At school I usually do half diet Coke and half Cherry coke. The cherry cuts the crappy flavor.
